Siri Founders Launch Lola : The Next Generation Of Virtual Banking Assistant Is Here

in Lola, Siri, Virtual Assistants / No Comments

The future of Virtual Personal Assistants for banking is here and its called Lola. This project, which is developed by the company which has made Siri, yes the same Siri which was acquired by Apple has been working on with BBVA for several years now, is the first application of what we see as the next generation of virtual personal assistant technology beyond Siri.

For BBVA, Lola is a cornerstone of its customer-centric banking vision, which includes bringing the simplicity and reassurance of in-branch banking to the online world. The goal of the Lola project is to achieve that simplicity and reassurance by integrating human-like interaction into the user experience.

Creating more human-like interaction means understanding the user’s intent and then acting upon it. Since users usually can’t express their intent in a single sentence, Lola needs to understand conversation.  To act on the user’s intent, Lola must reason about what to do, and know how to do it in the online banking system.  These are difficult challenges, but when BBVA came to SRI with these needs, SRI saw them as a great fit for SRI’s next generation virtual personal assistant technology, which is based on conversational natural language understanding, reasoning, and in-depth knowledge of specific applications.

BBVA Compass (their North American franchise) will be testing Lola over the next months internally with employees and their families. SRI will be using that experience to improve Lola’s natural language capabilities while simultaneously expanding the range of banking services and capabilities it supports.  When the system is customer-ready, it will be deployed more widely.  BBVA sees VPA-based banking expanding to all of the bank’s touch points with customers, and to ever more sophisticated assistance such as suggesting ways for customers to make better use of the bank’s evolving products and services.

With Lola we are seeing a fundamental step toward the future of banking, and a key milestone for SRI’s next generation of VPA technology.

      Apple Siri Gets Smart With iPad, Facebook And Vehicle Integration : Apple WWDC

      Siri is gearing up to hit the open road and control your social networks as the software gets smarter.

      Apple isn’t giving up on Siri, the voice control and recognition technology that was introduced last October with the unveiling of iOS 5. Instead, it looks like the software is getting smarter on iOS 6 and some more friends with some serious integration deals that were revealed During Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco on Monday morning.

      First of all, Siri is moving beyond the confines of the iPhone 4S to the iPad. Beyond that, Apple has expanded integration on Facebook. This means that users will be able to update their status messages just by vocal command. So use that at your own risk.

      Speaking of risk taking, Apple is bringing Siri to the open road thanks to partnerships with Toyota, GM, Mercedes, BMW, Honda, Audi and more. The technology will be installed in the steering wheel, responding to spoken alerts without lighting up the screen. The implementation is expected to be completed within the next year.

      It’s debatable whether or not concentrating on vocal commands while driving is any safer than texting or talking on your cell phone. One would think that vocal commands would be much safer…but if Siri doesn’t understand what you’re saying, then how much time would you be spending trying to correct that while driving too?

      Siri is showing signs of strength as Apple has announced some considerable updates for the platform, including the ability to open apps and more language support. It also looks like Siri is getting better at understanding search commands…at least based on the keynote demo.

      IBM Bans Siri Inside It’s Network : Siri Can Be Used As A Tech Spy

      in Apple, IBM, Siri / No Comments

      If you work for IBM, you can bring your iPhone to work, but forget about using the phone’s voice-activated digital assistant. Siri isn’t welcome on Big Blue’s networks. The reason? Siri ships everything you say to her to a big data center in Maiden, North Carolina. And the story of what really happens to all of your Siri-launched searches, e-mail messages and inappropriate jokes is a bit of a black box.

      IBM CIO Jeanette Horan told MIT’s Technology Review this week that her company has banned Siri outright because, according to the magazine, “The company worries that the spoken queries might be stored somewhere.”

      It turns out that Horan is right to worry. In fact, Apple’s iPhone Software License Agreement spells this out: “When you use Siri or Dictation, the things you say will be recorded and sent to Apple in order to convert what you say into text,” Apple says. Siri collects a bunch of other information — names of people from your address book and other unspecified user data, all to help Siri do a better job.

      How long does Apple store all of this stuff, and who gets a look at it? Well, the company doesn’t actually say. Again, from the user agreement: “By using Siri or Dictation, you agree and consent to Apple’s and its subsidiaries’ and agents’ transmission, collection, maintenance, processing, and use of this information, including your voice input and User Data, to provide and improve Siri, Dictation, and other Apple products and services.”

      Because some of the data that Siri collects can be very personal, the American Civil Liberties Union put out a warning about Siri just a couple of months ago. Privacy was always a big concern for Siri’s developers, says Edward Wrenbeck, the lead developer of the original Siri iPhone app, which was eventually acquired by Apple. And for corporate users, there are even more potential pitfalls. “Just having it known that you’re at a certain customer’s location might be in violation of a non-disclosure agreement,” he says.

      But he agrees that many of the issues raised by Apple’s Siri data handling are similar to those that other internet companies face. “I really don’t think it’s something to worry about,” he says. “People are already doing things on these mobile devices. Maybe Siri makes their life a little bit easier, but it’s not exactly opening up a new avenue that wasn’t there before.”

      But other companies have been pressured by privacy groups over the way they store customer data. Google, for example, has come under fire in the past for the way it handles a massive database of user search data. But IBM doesn’t ban Google. Neither Apple nor IBM could be reached for comment Tuesday, but there are a couple of important differences between Siri and Google that may have IBM worried: For one, Siri can be used to write e-mails or text messages. So, in theory, Apple could be storing confidential IBM messages.

      Another difference: After being dogged by privacy advocates, Google now anonymizes search results — making them difficult, if not impossible, to trace back to an individual user — after nine months. Maybe if Apple agreed to do something like that, Siri would be welcome over in Armonk, New York.

      Nuance Launches Dragon Drive! : Now You Can Control Your Car With Your Voice Like Siri

      in Nuance, Siri, Voice Car / No Comments

      Ncom Dragon Drive Hot Spot

      Nuance Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN) today unveiled Dragon Drive!, Nuance’s new automotive-grade natural-language voice platform created and designed specifically for the connected car. Dragon Drive! enables automotive manufacturers and suppliers to deliver eyes-free, hands-free message dictation and direct access to content, music, and navigation – all powered by the same core technologies at the heart of Nuance’s successful Dragon Dictation and Dragon Go!.

      Consumers demand connectivity no matter where they are – fueling rapid growth of the connected car market and increased demand for voice-enabled in-car services.

      But accessing all the connected car has to offer must not come at the expense of driver distraction. Among the biggest being manual-visual distractions posed by handheld messaging.

      Dragon Drive! Messaging is the first in a series of connected services that will hit the market this summer as part of Nuance’s Dragon Drive! platform. Dragon Drive! features Nuance’s renowned Dragon Dictation technology already experienced by tens of millions of consumers worldwide. Drivers experience a conversational mobile assistant messaging experience that lets them speak, listen and respond to text messages and emails – keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. For instance:

      • “Send a text to Anna Smith, ‘I’m stuck in traffic. I’ll be at the office as soon as possible.’”

      • “Listen to the email from Alex” to hear text read aloud with Nuance’s newly optimized humanlike text-to-speech;

      • “Reply to Alex, ‘Sushi sounds great. See you at 7.’”

      Furthering the hands- and eyes-free connected-car mobile assistant experience, Nuance’s Dragon Drive! platform also gives automotive manufacturers the same directed search and natural language understanding capabilities experienced in the successful Dragon Go!. The result is a driver who can speak to:

      • Find local businesses and information;

      • Get instant directions from anywhere;

      • Search and listen to any song or artist; and,

      • Get instant knowledge and news from the mobile Web.

      And it’s all available through a simple spoken query or command, regardless if it’s in the car or in the cloud. Dragon Drive! hears what you say and understands what you mean, delivering spoken content and information from leading, trusted providers – hands and eyes not required.

      Dragon Drive! fully harnesses Nuance’s deep experience and research in natural language understanding and automotive voice technologies. The result is a highly specialized automotive-grade hybrid platform optimized for in-vehicle use that engages both the embedded and connected features of in-car infotainment systems. Combined with Nuance’s sophisticated array microphone and noise cancellation technology, drivers experience a seamless and natural exchange with their car, minimizing manual and visual distractions.

      “As connectivity continues to push into the car, bringing with it a host of new services and features, the risk of driver distraction is becoming a key issue for every vehicle manufacturer,” said Jack Bergquist, Automotive Analyst, IMS Research recently acquired by IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS). “Vehicle manufacturers are increasingly turning to natural voice-based interfaces to simplify more complex command tasks and to provide information and data back to the driver in a way that avoids them needing to take their eyes off the road.”

      “The entire automotive ecosystem faces a critical challenge – keep consumers connected to the content they love, without imposing dangerous distractions behind the wheel,” said Arnd Weil, vice president and general manager, automotive, Nuance Mobile. “Dragon Drive! has been designed from the ground up with a focus on voice and natural language bridging that gap to give consumers the ability to take full advantage of the broad range of services today’s connected car has to offer.”

      Dragon Drive! Messaging is currently available in six languages including US and UK English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. Additional services, languages and country markets will roll out throughout the year. To learn more about Dragon Drive!, visit www.nuance.com/products/dragon-drive

Before you go why siri why, self destruction is activated only if you have enabled the iphone unlock error security feature on the concept iPhone 5.

      If you cant have the iphone, NO one can! The question is not whether iPhone — Will it blend? but iPhone — Will it destruct?, if stolen. Go Siri!
